St. John Bosco dazzles in win over St. Peter’s Prep

Coming into the season, St. John Bosco High School drew many questions regarding its offense, in particular, the quarterback position.  Josh Rosen, now starting for UCLA as a true-freshman, led the Braves success for years.  Though confident in senior Quentin Davis’s abilities, it is still difficult to replace an elite quarterback like Rosen.

Sure enough, Davis made his case known, leading the Braves to a 76-point season opener over La Mirada.  After that, John Bosco posted 67, 66, and 55-point games in succession, heavily influenced by the skill and leadership of Davis.

Most recently, Bosco faced off against New Jersey’s St. Peter’s Prep.  St. Peter’s just makes the cut in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings at 98th in the country.

Early in the first, Davis hit receiver Berkley Holmon for a 48-yard touchdown to opener the scoring.  Later in the quarter, Anselem Umeh reeled in a 32-yard pass for a score.  By halftime, the Braves built up a 21-7 lead.

St. Peter’s opened up the second half with a quick touchdown, cutting Bosco’s lead in half.  It did not take the Braves long to strike back as Sean McGrew exploded to a 80-yard touchdown, his second rushing TD of the night.  On the next drive, Davis and McGrew connected for a 61-yard score.  John Bosco added on two rushing touchdowns before the end of the third, one from Davis and the other from Terrance Beasley.

By the end of the game, Bosco led an impressive score line at 56-14, after scoring eight TDs.

Davis finished completing 16-of-31 passes for 325 yards and three TDs, along with a nine-yard rushing score.  McGrew carried the ball 24 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns, adding on 75 receiving yards and a TD on two catches.

Now 5-0, Bosco currently sits at 7th in the nation by DigitalSports.  After a two week break, the Braves next face 37th ranked Santa Margarita on the road.  The two California teams are set to meet on October 9 at 7:00pm.
